Using the command line

In a command line interface, you type commands into a window (a.k.a. terminal, command prompt, TUI) and the computer executes them. There are many languages used for these commands, and several programs in which they can be used. What you use is up to yof, but we have some specific recommendations below. All you need to know is which platform you are working on (Windows, MacOS, Linux).

When you first start to use the terminal, it may look rather boring, hard to use and overall not very appealing. With a few days, you should be able to get comfortable with a few general commands, and the appearance and behaviour can be customised to your preferences. In fact, there are many ways to program and modify the terminal to your convenience. Having a tool that you are happy and comfortable with is important!
